So yesterday we drove back to Longmeadow from Boston, and when we phoned our parents to say we're on the way, they said they had a Surprise! A "surprise"?! our parents never have surprises! What could it be? we wondered....a new car??...they actually got grandma to come to Longmeadow??....did they bring our old cat back to visit??...well I was the closest with the latter guess, but it was something we'd never would have predicted...after having 2 cats, multiple hamsters, we now have 2 parakeets!

I want our green one to get as fat as this one! We got one green male and one blue female. Here are some fun facts about parakeets I found amusing:
-Contrary to historical beliefs, modern literature agrees that
budgerigars should never be kept single as this can cause serious harm
to the bird both physically and psychologically
-
Why does my Parakeet Spit Up Food?
This is the ultimate compliment a parakeet can give... If your parakeet is regurgitating food for you, it is the parakeet's way of saying he loves you.
-Budgerigars each have their own unique ideas about how much they like
to be handled, which toys are their favourites, and even what music
they like or are indifferent to.
-Care should be taken when placing several female budgies together, as
they can do serious harm to one another if they do not get along. It is
easier and often more convenient to keep either an even number of both
males and females or to only keep male birds altogether as these
generally get along with each other without any problem
-a little more on the sad side, but kinda intriguing:
Why do some Budgies die Earlier? There is also a window of time where a budgie might
develop a tumor. If a parakeet starts acting poorly around age 5-7 it
is probably a tumor. Take your bird to a vet if you notice its
breastbone sticking out or that the bird has trouble sitting on its
perch. If your bird makes it through this period it will probably live
a long life and die of old age.
